The hotel part was built in 1902 to cater for the great innovation of the age - tourism. It overlooks the garden and the village of Coniston, and enjoys many beautiful Edwardian details such as the fine Minton flooring in the building's entrance.
Downstairs there is a massive lounge close enough to get drinks but far enough away to chat and chill comfortably and avoid the noise. With oak panelled walls, leather chairs and a wood burner for cooler evenings, it's like a small club next to a decent country pub and a very pleasant spot for quieter moments. A more recent addition is the large conservatory used for dining.
Upstairs, we’ve done an awful lot to the place since we arrived several years ago and found most of the bedrooms painted pink (don’t ask).
Not long ago, The Sun was rated as a 2 star Hotel which meant we had to provide shoe-cleaning kits amongst other Lakeland essentials......! Now instead, we are a 4 star Inn which means we concentrate on what we want to provide, a decent bar, better food and somewhere to get a good night’s sleep. We aim to be comfortable, competent and quietly informal.
There is off road parking available for cars as well as limited storage for bicycles.
